About Jenna

Jenna is a Grand Rapids based violinist who studied under the direction of Dr. Gregory Maytan at Grand Valley State University. During her time at GVSU, she explored many styles of music and played with a number of different ensembles, ranging from playing on period instruments in the Early Music Ensemble to playing with electronics in the New Music Ensemble. As well as playing in multiple small ensembles, Jenna also led the Grand Valley Chamber and Symphony Orchestras as concertmaster during her undergraduate studies. Jenna graduated in 2017 with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts with Performance Honors and a Minor in Philosophy.

Following graduation, Jenna and a few colleagues formed a string quartet in 2018. Along with ensemble members Krista Archambault, Jamie Listh, and Kevin Sweers, they perform at public and private events year round. In the spring of 2022, they recorded its first album, Pearl, with McBride Studios. Jenna and Jamie also tour markets each summer playing folk music.

Bettering her community through sharing the gift of music with children has become Jenna’s most powerful passion. Taking inspiration from Dr. Suzuki, Jenna believes that by teaching young students to play music, she is helping them grow into hardworking and sensitive members of society. Jenna received training to teach the Suzuki Violin Method’s Book 1 from Rolando Freitag at the Orlando Suzuki Institute in 2021, Book 3 from David Strom at the Greater Washington Suzuki Institute in 2023, and Books 2 and 4 from Jenna Potts at the Potts Violin Studio in 2022 and 2023.

Jenna currently teaches out of her home studio located 25 minutes Southeast of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is currently accepting new students and has a goal to open a commercial space in the Fall of 2025. Learn more about Jenna’s violin lessons.
